Resumo: The university library, as an institution, plays an important role in the organization, preservation and dissemination of personal documentary sets, worked here as personal assets, which, understanding their patrimonial character, have the potential for memory and history. The personal estate of Francisco Tancredo Torres, under the custody of the Sectorial Library of the Centro de Ciências Agrárias of Universidade Federal da Paraíba, reveals part of the memory and history of the city of Areia (PB), which is recorded in the writings and in what he chose to keep, documenting for decades the narratives of that place. The estate becomes a documentary source, the result of the intention to support/subsidize the present, a reserve of memories and stories, contributing to the preservation and redefinition of the memory and history of the city of Areia. A historic city, listed by IPHAN, Areia was present in major political clashes, participated in major cultural, religious and economic events, the municipality has great names of famous children who continue to highlight their hometown, projecting its heritage. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the contributions of findings from the estate of Francisco Tancredo Torres, considering the infomemorial powers of different memory media, with a view to constructing and re-signifying the memory of the city of Areia, based on a set of studies and investigative operations, enabling the organization, access and use of information contained in the estate. The methodology used comprises an archaeological investigation, seeking support in narrative research, in addition to bibliographic and documentary studies. Reframing and enabling access and use of the information that such documents carry is to (re)visit a part of Areia history, its characters and the achievements that make it a historic city. The results reveal unpublished documents found in the collection that help in the memorialistic and historical narrative of the city and its characters, in order to fill in the gaps in memory and history already mentioned.
