Pregnancy and childbirth can represent positive and enriching experiences for women and their families. Having the presence of a companion, chosen by the woman in labor, is essential at this time, as it contributes to qualification, safety and promotion of autonomy in maternal and neonatal health care. General Objective: to develop a virtual visit through the maternity ward to empower the companion. Specific objectives: create a virtual maternity visit using the Design Thinking method; apply virtual maternity visits with companions and women in labor; validate the virtual visit with postpartum women, companions and health professionals. Method: technological development study, based on the Design Thinking model, in five stages, empathy, problem definition, ideation, prototyping and testing/evaluation, carried out in the maternity ward and obstetric center of a large private hospital. 31 professionals from the nursing team who work in these locations participated, 26 postpartum women and 26 companions. Data collection took place from June to October 2023, through self-administered questionnaires with professionals and postpartum women and companions, using Health Educational Content Validation and Assistive Technology Assessment instruments. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and thematic content analysis. Approval was obtained from the Research Ethics Committee under opinion: 6.049.162. All participants received and signed the Informed Consent Form and confidentiality and anonymity were guaranteed. Results: using the Design Thinking method, the video entitled: Virtual visit to the maternity ward was developed, which obtained content and face validation. It is noteworthy that the quality of the video was considered excellent, representing a resource that contributes to reducing the anxiety of companions during hospitalization and hospitalization of women in labor. The findings show that the virtual visit to empower the companion provides satisfaction and security, constituting a facilitating tool to transmit information to the family, who is being admitted to the maternity ward for the birth of their child. Final Considerations: it is possible to help professionals to optimize the work process and companions to know their role and, consequently, promote maternal and neonatal health. Product and its applicability: demonstrates a relevant impact by contributing to the training process of health professionals, in addition to raising awareness about the topic and instigating reflections. Video as an instructional technology can also impact the emotions and feelings surrounding labor and birth for companions and women in labor. |
