Resumo: |
Health education and promotion are crucial concepts in the field of public health and for the well-being of the population. Both involve the implementation of strategies and methods aimed at improving health and lifestyle, with the primary goal of preventing diseases through actions that encourage healthy behaviors and habits. The relevance of this theme aligns with the third Sustainable Development Goal (SDG), Health and Well-Being. Objective: To establish a physical space in a maternity ward of a hospital in the interior of Rio Grande do Sul, dedicated to health education and promotion in the context of pregnancy and the postpartum period. Method: The approach was based on creating an environment that integrates health education and promotion. For the implementation of the physical space, the following steps were considered: a situational diagnosis conducted through open, qualitative interviews with 21 women. The data collection instrument consisted of a questionnaire with questions related to the women’s identification, education level, marital status, and the weaknesses and strengths of the service regarding health education and promotion in the context of prenatal and postpartum care. For the integrative review, six steps were followed: identification of the theme and research question; establishment of inclusion and exclusion criteria for studies and definition of databases; definition of information to be extracted from selected studies; critical evaluation of studies included in the integrative review; interpretation of results; and presentation of the review/knowledge synthesis. The search was conducted in March 2023 in the following databases: Latin American and Caribbean Literature (Lilacs), Scientific Electronic Library Online (Scielo), and National Library of Medicine (Medline). For each database, different combinations of descriptors or Mesh Terms were used. The analysis corpus consisted of eight articles. Results: Health education and promotion are fundamental to improving maternal and child health. A situational diagnosis, conducted through semi- structured interviews with 21 women, including healthcare professionals, identified weaknesses such as the lack of a dedicated space for health education and strengths such as the willingness of pregnant women to participate in educational activities. An integrative review reinforced the importance of educational actions for prevention and the promotion of healthy habits. Based on the data, a physical space was established in the maternity ward for educational activities during prenatal and postpartum care, aiming to improve the quality of care and the well-being of women, with a focus on evidence-based practices and local needs. Conclusions: The implementation of maternal and child support rooms represents an effective and beneficial initiative to improve the health and well-being of pregnant and postpartum women. The combination of personalized education and promotion in healthy environments can lead to a significant reduction in complications, improved maternal experiences, and increased overall satisfaction with the care received, contributing to qualified and effective care during the gestational-postpartum period. Product and its Applicability: The space promotes the adoption of healthy habits and the prevention of complications, contributing to the reduction of maternal and infant mortality. Pregnant and postpartum women receive evidence-based guidance, helping them address specific challenges during pregnancy and the postpartum period. In addition to providing a welcoming and informative environment, it increases women’s satisfaction with the care received, strengthening maternal autonomy and enabling them to make more informed decisions about their health and that of their children. |
