Resumo: | This research investigates the use of manipulatives for teaching fractions. The research has a qualitative character and, as instruments, had a diagnostic test and a field diary, in which were recorded observations of the teacher-researcher on the performance of students to engage in activities. The study was conducted with 91 students in the 6th grade of elementary school in a federal public school in the city of Santa Maria, RS. Researches on the existence of manipulatives for teaching operations with fractions were developed, as well as analysis of some textbooks of elementary school and verification of how the operations with fractions content is presented. We developed a sequence of activities to work with operations with fractions, with the support of manipulatives, and analyzed the performance of students by developing activities. It was noted that most students had good results with the use of these materials and, especially, it was established an environment of interaction and exchange of knowledge with the teacher-researcher and colleagues. It is considered that this experience can be used in the classroom and even in future workshops for mathematics teachers and educators who work in the teaching of mathematics in the early years of elementary school. Therefor, it has been developed a set of activities is presented as a product of this dissertation. |
