Resumo: |
The occurrence of a worldwide pandemic caused an accelerated process of transformation in people's lives and daily lives, especially for institutionalized elderly people. In this sense, this research aimed to understand the perception of workers at a long-stay institution for the elderly (ILPI) in relation to the psychosocial needs of institutionalized elderly during the Covid-19 pandemic. A qualitative study with a descriptive and exploratory character was developed in a mixed ILPI located in the interior of Rio Grande do Sul. Data collection occurred from October 2021 to January 2022 through a semi-structured interview carried out with 10 workers from different sectors of the respective institution. The interviews were stored through audio recordings, with the consent of participants, so the data obtained were later transcribed and coded. For the interpretation of the results, the thematic analysis proposed by Minayo (2007) was applied and developed in three stages: pre-analysis; exploration of the material; treatment of the obtained results and interpretation. It was possible to observe that ILPI workers reported that distancing from family members and not carrying out pre-pandemic activities had an impact on the psychosocial needs of the elderly. In addition, it was evident that the management team and the other workers were concerned with meeting these needs, evidencing a sensitive and welcoming view of the institution as a whole. The activities carried out by the workers showed that, although the elderly faced a difficult period during the Covid-19 pandemic, they were always assisted and supported in the emotional and affective aspects. Therefore, the role played by workers proved to be essential to reduce the impacts resulting from isolation. |
