Resumo: In this research, the main objective is to investigate possible contributions to the application of a sequence of activities, elaborated according to the Didactic Engineering, for the comprehension of the plane curve length concept by students from an Undergraduate Course of Mathematics. For such, as for the theoretical references, the Theory of David tall and Sholomo Vinner (1981) concerning concept image and concept definition were used. In order to know the work already done, using this theory as the ground, a research on the thesis and dissertation database from the Coordination for the Improvement of Higher Education Personnel (CAPES) was done. These productions were analysed and separated in two categories: Concepts used in Basic Education, and Concepts used in Higher Education. The participants of this research were undergraduate students from the Mathematics Course from a Community Institution in Rio Grande do Sul, enrolled in the subject Calculation II. As a methodology, the Didactic Engineering, based on Michele Artigue (1996) was applied. Firstly, the analysis of didactic books used by teachers was done, and a diagnostic test was applied with the aim of knowing the students‟ knowledge about the theme. The results of the analysis and the diagnostic test were used as support for the elaboration of a sequence of activities for the construction of the curve length concept. The data survey was done through written and audio records, done by the researcher on the field report, of the activities resolutions done by the students. From the results analysis, it can be inferred that the students, apart the difficulties showed concerning previous knowledge, could build conceptual images in average level which provided the comprehension of the concept of the plane curve length.
