Resumo: The factors of economic growth have been widely discussed by economists as a necessary condition for development. As Adam Smith and other economists like Thomas Malthus, John Stuart Mill, David Ricardo and Karl Marx, the identification of these determinants has always been a concern. In the 1960s, the North American economist Douglas C. North through his Export Base Theory would highlight the importance of foreign trade in the process of economic growth, for which export success would be a necessary condition for growth. In the 1980s, a new competitive context and technical opportunities arose linked to a new and dynamic vision of capitalism as a result of the process of internationalization of capital experienced in this period. Considering a scenario in which globalization demands more and more productivity and specialization of productive activities, where the producer and the productive arrangement are put to the test by the capitalist market implying them complex productive relations, this work had the objective to identify the dynamics of the rural land use in the state of Mato Grosso, based on the analysis of changes in the production profile between 2002 and 2016. The revealed dynamics can be used as a subsidy to indicate studies and / or policies that develop not only the export base but also the entire productive structure of State. For this, a regional analysis was carried out, through localization and specialization measures and a shift-share analysis to contribute to the analysis of the spatial dynamics, identifying the main modifications in the rural land use. The results show a considerable expansion of the agricultural production area in the state, especially for export-oriented crops, and point to a process that occurs between a slow and moderate pace of changes in the pattern of location of major crops and of restructuring regions. The work contributes to the expansion of the stock of knowledge when performing the research for immediate geographic areas and also considering the shift-share method with expansion in the number of components proposed to portray the effects of harvested area (with scale and substitution effects), yield (production by area); geographical location (changes between localities); the effect of local production composition; and the price effect.
