Resumo: This dissertation has as object a part of the literary production realized in Mato Grosso in the period of 1937 to 1954. This production was approached insofar as we seek to understand the clashes between intellectuals situated in opposing spaces as far as the conceptions of literature are concerned. On the one hand, a group of authors who defend a reaffirmation of traditional dogmas, of a type of literature already established; On the other, the performance of young subjects who have adopted a supposed renewal of regional literature, with a view to adapting it to the styles performed in other spaces, such as São Paulo and Rio de Janeiro, places where modernist movements have achieved prestige and legitimacy. Our writing was guided by the perspective of understanding the transits performed by one of these authors in contexts of the history of Brazil quite representative: we approached the work of Rubens de Mendonça in the first moment, period that includes the authoritarian government of Getúlio Vargas, New State (Estado Novo); Later, his poetry considered modern insofar as it distances itself from the literary canon established in Mato Grosso, reaffirmed by conservative intellectuals, in the local press and in the spaces of power in the state.
