Resumo: Automation that seeks energy efficiency is a relevant topic for educational institutions, since they generally present increased loads with the electricity bill. Faced with the reduction in costing resources, it has become increasingly necessary to take efficiency measures, reducing the reduction in energy consumption. This study aimed to develop an affordable computing solution for automation of lighting and air conditioning in classrooms (SACI_IoT), seeking to improve energy efficiency. The object of study for the University of the State of Mato Grosso - UNEMAT, Barra do Bugres campus. It is an applied research, with a quantitative approach, using Design Science Research (DSR) as a method. In order to promote innovation in the institution, an alternative technology was developed, consisting of hardware and software for managing the automation system for lamps and air conditioners, based on the concept of the Internet of Things (IoT) - electronic equipment that are integrated over the internet. The results met expectations, where it was possible to autonomously control the switching on and off of air conditioners and lamps in a teaching environment, even promoting thermal comfort. Automation is affordable and can be adapted to other environments and buildings in order to avoid wasting electricity. Obligation to the restrictions imposed due to the Covid pandemic19, it was not possible to carry out with and without the use of the tool to measure the economy.
