Resumo: This study has as main theme the Research of Infancy, Youth and Contemporary Culture of the Postgraduate Program in Education of the Federal University of Mato Grosso, campus of Rondonópolis (PPGEdu/UFMT/CUR). The object of study is the first work of the Twilight Saga in film format, produced by the director Catherine Hardwick and released in 2008 by the studio Summit Entertainment, screenwriter by Melissa Rosenberg adapted from the first book of Stephenie Meyer. This movie was very popular specially among teenagers worldwide. This study will be conducted in order to discuss the sociopolitical implications of the production. In this regard, this work has as main objective analyzing the representations of youths in the film Twilight (2008). In recent years, the increased consumption of products from the cultural industry such as cinema has deserved much attention, since its consumers belong, in its majority, to a young public. This public, nowadays, reinvents itself by the constant accessing to a great amount of information and cultural knowledge. In this context, it is observed the need of analyzing the US cinematographic productions. As demonstrated by the Internet Movie Database – IMDB – one of the today‟s main movie date bases, some of these productions are favorite among young people, this has great influence on the consumption of products related to these brands. The effects of this interaction can be seen worldwide. The methodology was based on the studies of the following researchers Kellner (2001), Vanoye and Goliot-Lété (2002) and Turner (1997). It was developed with the analyses of cultural studies of media, cultural pedagogy and film analysis, which allowed to comprehend how the film narrative participates in youth culture. The theoretical framework used was proposed by Savage (2009) and Pais (1990), in order to approach the path of the youth inside sociohistorical scenarios in deep transformations, in which the same can self-affirm, though in a slight visible way, as a category that belongs to a space-temporal in which individuals construct their own references of life, through struggles and resistances against the established institutions, in order to have the right of full living the ascending culture that is opposed to the consolidated one. Therefore, this research is organized in three chapters which promote a reflection about the conducted analysis, among them: the comprehension of the movie‟s production narrative and of the young characters represented in the story, so to approach the role of the public consumer and the cultural development; an analysis of the representations of the youth in the film, presenting the divisions which are established between the young groups represented and the way theses character are constructed over the narrative; the problematizations on the representations of sexuality of the analyzed youth, in which are discussed the questions about the constitution of gender and sexual identities of the characters. The final considerations indicate four representations of youths in the film: the vampire youths, the human youths, the indigenous youths and the dangerous youths. This model indicates the representation of a privileged youth in the plot, made of the vampires, which are above the other classes. In this regard, we highlight the importance of insertion of the critical reading of media as an indispensable resource in the life of people in the contemporary scenario, as well as the need of inclusion of the cultural studies of media in the context of education, in order to capacitate people to analyze and interact critically with the productions of the cultural industry.
