The objective of this work consists in analyze and compare the environmental quality of a region of urban expansion in the city of Cuiabá-MT between the years 2005 and 2021. This study region has undergone an intense process of urbanization in recent years, devoid of planning and analyzes in the field of land use, land cover and environmental quality. The entire area and each lot was mapped and classified, using Geographic Information Systems (GIS), to prepare thematic maps of land use and land cover, which were later cross-referenced, resulting in the urban environmental quality chart of the year 2005, and comparing the results obtained with the year 2021. This comparison between the years 2005 and 2021 aims to identify the problems and points to be improved, and what resulted in the worsening of the environmental quality indices, thus being able to subsidize the study and development of public policies and orientation of municipal actions for efficient urban planning, aiming at improving the urban environmental quality and quality of life of the population. As a result, it was observed that the environmental quality of the region, despite still having predominantly good rates over the years, was greatly impaired in a short period of time, also having areas with poor quality rates and incompatible uses. For a better analysis, it is recommended to use the urban environmental quality chart together with the other thematic charts.
