Resumo: Historical background of physical education if school is permeated by the intentions that in each historical moment is formed on the social, political and cultural society. Thus, it has been aimed in this study to investigate and record the history of Physical Education and Sports State School Nilza de Oliveira Pipino in the period 1978-2010, identifying the elements that contributed to the diffusion process of Physical Education and Sports in Sinop, Mato Grosso. The theoretical foundation approached the city of Sinop colonizatórios originated through the processes developed by the Federal Government in the 70's, prevailing in this region the private colonization by corporate real estate group Sinop - Northwest Real Estate Company Paranaense, who gave the name of city. He also addressed the foundation of the State School Nilza de Oliveira Pipino and its condition of existence and participation in cultural activities, sports, civic festivals, among other municipality in the period stated for this study as well as the development of Physical Education and Sports in Sinop. Thus, the research mentioned plunged into the universe, trying to understand the discourses and practices in different contexts contributed to the construction of different representations on the practice of Physical Education and Sports. For both, it was adopted as a subsidy theoretical and methodological Cultural History, with a qualitative approach, whose primary sources were consulted the files of the State School Nilza de Oliveira Pipino (class diaries, meeting minutes, newspaper reports, photographs) and interviews with teachers and former teachers and questionnaires to former students of the school during the period in question. It was found that physical education has come a significant and meaningful way at Sinop has as its foundation the sport because the results led it to a prominent regional and state levels. It is noticed also that in the course of its history, the State School Nilza de Oliveira Pipino had a great contribution not only for education at Sinop, but contributed significantly to sports development, economic and social development in the northern region of the State of Mato Grosso.
