Resumo: The supply of financial credit and investment products continues to grow. Faced with so many options, this work proposes a reflection in relation to the use of mathematics as a tool for decision making. Issues involving the daily financial mathematics, guidelines for approaching the school curriculum, some possibilities beyond the school space, as well as possibilities to be considered when it comes to personal finances. The mathematical framework addressed is essential for the analysis and understanding of the behavior of money over time. The conceptualization of the problem was developed according to simulations performed with real characteristics, aiming to apply the mathematical framework to analyze and compare situations. Beyond tables, graphical representations help to visualize and understand the variables involved in the problems. In the study of payroll deductions, patterns and effects on the income of civil servants were identified. It can be concluded that knowledge of alternatives, reflection on behavior and how to deal with money, are essential for proper planning of personal finances.
