Resumo: The current study analyzes the environment, considering both its totality and its classification, and restricts the research on the rural work environment, where the laborers remain for the most part of their lives. In order to assure dignity, health and security for those who labor there, this environment must be healthy, suitable and balanced. It represents a fundamental right in line with the national and international legislation. However, although the abundant regulation about this subject, the degradation of the rural work environment and even the exploitation of the laborers are scary, for it comprehends since the non-compliance of simple norms of safety and health to the debasement of the laborer to a slave-like condition, wounding the dignity of the human person. Faced with these great questions that are presented, the public Power, either by the mediation of the Department of Labor and Employment, either by the Public Ministry of Labor and the Labor Courts, also counting with the support of other institutions, has been intensifying its actions to defend the right to the dignity, the health and the security of the farm worker. Nevertheless, the articulations of the public Power are quite weak in face of the problems presented, what requires urgently more effectiveness in the compliance of the legal regulations. It is in order to explore the levels of this protection in Brazil that this work came out, adopting the scientific method, with bibliographical search. At the end of the research, the conclusion is that, in spite of the national and international efforts to protect the rural work environment, and even with a reasonable number of legal regulations about it, there are still difficulties in their practical implementation.
