This work has as main goal to evaluate and measure the agribusiness importance in Mato Grosso state's economy. For this, the input-output matrix of Mato Grosso was used for the year 2007. It was found that the state had a total GDP of R$ 41,589.22 and, of this total, 42.95% corresponds to the service sector and the rest of the aggregates is practically represented by agribusiness, responding with 53.15%. Measured at market prices, the state's agribusiness totaled R$ 22,105.58 million. Agricultural production was the largest contributor to this agribusiness result with 48.69% and 15.07% with agricultural services. One of the main goals of this study was achieved, the GDP estimation of the main production chains of Mato Grosso, cotton, soybeans and corn. The chain of soybean had the highest income in the period, with R$ 8,922.06 million (at market prices). Following, the cotton chain came with R$ 1,505.84 million, followed by the corn chain with R$ 1,251.93 million. The soybean crop had greater prominence, with a share of 40.36% in the GDP of agribusiness and 21.45% of the state’s GDP, devoting as the most important crop for income generation in the state's economy.
