Resumo: ABSTRACT This thesis that has as its theme the mega-sport events at the service of financial capital and the process of valorization of the urban space of Cuiabá / MT, analyzed the actions and strategies of the transforming social agents of the urban space, studying the process of real estate valorization provoked by the realization of the 2014 FIFA World Cup and its consequences in relation to land occupation and social changes for the city of Cuiabá. In order to analyze our research object we did an ethnographic research in order to understand the behavior and sociocultural dynamics of the local population in the period before and after the World Cup. This was possible because, in addition to the theoretical foundation made in the first moment, qualitative and quantitative research was organized to capture indicators to prove our hypothesis, the field work with the main actors was done to better understand the process of socio-cultural coexistence in a city in transformation, and our indicators were obtained in a multifactorial way to prove our hypothesis. The time cut was between 2007 and 2017 and the spatial cut occurred in Cuiabá and in the metropolitan area. The result of the statistical data interrelated with the cuts has been consolidated in the form of graphs, tables and maps and help us to understand the relationship of football with its cultural and social relations with the city in the service of speculative capital. The thesis presented here presents some explanations for the growing financialization of soccer in Brazil and in the world with the spectacularization of cities that "need" to be transformed in order to receive the sporting events. Thus the penetration of financial capital in cities has been responsible for the production of urban space. This thesis sought to elucidate the social implications for citizens with the entanglement of financial capital and the 2014 World Cup in the city of Cuiabá. The logistic megaprojects resulting from the choice of the city and the experience of living in a city during the real estate valuation period and the consequences for the regional football and the city in the post World Cup Soccer period.
