Resumo: This dissertation seeks to understand the weaving of relationships that were created to allow the rebirth of Capoeira in Cuiabá, Mato Grosso, with consideration to the rites and rituals that mark such practices in different consolidated groups, narratives and also its' history of the masters responsible for such groups. Capoeira, considered a manifestation of Afro-Brazilian culture, is an art marked by the story of the common people, made to tell and signify life's daily struggle. Capoeira, from its' conception as told by the masters and intellectuals in Brazil, to it's growth as a diverse art, is capable of untold dimensions and visions. Capoeira is expressed in the circles, dances, fights, games, jokes and rituals - all depending on its intention. It's historical and sociocultural experiences are only felt through the expression of body. This expression of self effected how one lived sociallaly, according to studies undertaken by Corte Real (2006), Vieira (1995), Falcão (1996) and Grando 2014). This qualitative social research was carried out with eight capoeira groups from Grande Cuiabá in dialogue with their teachers and managers. The methodological proposal is based on Ethnography to describe, from their narratives, how they perceive themselves and constitute themselves as a group of Brazilians, but also as capoeiristas from Mato Grosso. From them were gathered futher participants with which was gathered a network of relationships of interviews and relationships that began to form an identify that is unique to Mato Grosso. This network was m Bapped and is presented here. This data has made it possible to reflect upon the processes needed to further educate, understand and fully communicate to this body of people. The learning in and of the capoeira in Cuiabá is esential to the understanding of the diverse audience an educator faces and is crucial to devleoping an intercultural perspective.
