Resumo: | Considering the relevance of understanding the return on public spending in general, especially in times of scarce resources and assuming that education is one of the crucial areas for promoting sustained development and growth of the economy, the objective of this study is to analyze the efficiency of public spending applied to elementary education in the municipalities of the state of Mato Grosso, in the years 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015, 2017 and 2019, through Data Envelopment Analysis - DEA. The Variable Returns to Scale (BCC) model was used with product orientation. Among the main results obtained, it was identified the need for managers to reassess the practices used in the application of resources in the final years stage in relation to the initial years analyzed, with a view to promoting effective corrective actions regarding the allocation of public resources in education, for the adjustment disparities in the results found. Thus, corrective actions are necessary in order to offer a public, free and quality education to the population and meet the principle of efficiency enshrined in the Federal Constitution |
