Resumo: This paper presents the evaluation of impacts resulting from implementation of a project -efficiency electrical lighting using LED lamps ( Ligth Emitting Diode). In scope are studied behavior of demand and electricity consumption, economic viability analysis and cost benefit analysis of the impact on power quality and realization of the development, finally, the experimental validation of a computational model of the luminaire used in the studies. The project implemented enabled the replacement of existing technology in Public Lighting (IP) traffic via the central Federal University of Mato Grosso - UFMT, endowed with 40 poles, 20 feet high, with three petals lamp high pressure sodium (HPS) 400 W, each, exchanged for LED lamps of 230 W. Thus, in addition to lowering electric power consumption and demand of active power, it was also found relief of the system in peak hours, making the most efficient existing electrical installations. Through the calculation methodology developed in this study, it was shown that the return on investment in electrical efficiency can provide the technical and economic viability, as measured by a satisfactory cost-effective, even with the higher cost of the LED lamp in relation to the lamp High Pressure Sodium (HPS). In addition, attention must be given to other aspects: the economy with energy costs and reducing the need for maintenance of public lighting system. It also discusses the improvement of the lighting, environmental aspects related to the manufacture of LEDs and their discard. Concepts on the use of current technology in lighting UFMT is reviewed and studied in order to compare the characteristics of existing luminaires and lamps with the proposed system. It is performed comparing the results of measurements obtained in the laboratory with relation to the electricity consumption and demand of active power of the systems used, observing even the illuminance levels before and after the adoption of LED technology. The study also includes the simulation with the aid of a computational tool that allows the comparison of the LED lighting system and representation of the modeling circuit containing the basic components necessary for its operation.
