Resumo: When mentioning studies about press and women, we find a variety of academic papers that point us to different paths, especially whent it comes to women press. In this research, based on the approaches of the New Cultural History, refers to aspects of the social behavior of women in Cuiabana society, in a period of economic and cultural transformation, between 1956 and 1963. It takes as its source the newspapers of the capital of Mato Grosso and aims to analyze the representation of the behavior of women produced by these press agencies in the Cuiabana society, in which transpires the social positions towards political, economic and cultural transformations in the place where they were. We decided to elimit this temporal cut, because in that time, it developed a good part of the process of modernization of the country and consequent transformation in politics, since it corresponds to the period of a democratic opening with the Juscilino Kubitschek and João Goulart government. Moreover, this period represented the moment of economic and, mainly, cultural development, with the boom of American influences through film and literature, and of course, with the enlargement of media and printed communication. When analyzing the newspapers A Cruz (1956-1963), Boletim da Associação de Imprensa Matogrossense (1959), O Combate (1956-1962), O Estado de Mato Grosso (1956-1963), O Social Democrata (1957, 1958, 1960) e Tribuna Acadêmica (1959), we seek to unveil the dominant cultural norms, models of conduct and morality, within a social order and hierarchies of power. For the accomplishment of this research we use theorists who work on the press in Brazil, like Tania de Luca, Ana Luiza Martins, Maria Rolim Capelato, among others, as well as gender theorists who provide us with a background on the history of women, like Joan Scott, Joana Maria Pedro, Carla Bassanezi Pinsky, Margareth Rago, among others.
