Resumo: Among the instruments of economic character provided by Law 9433/1997 (Water Law) is the charging for water use, where the water use charges are distinct from the sanitation services charges, where the charge for use aims to rationalize the use of water, while the charges on sanitation services are due to the costs of operation, maintenance and replacement of the water supply system and wastewater treatment. One difficult found to implement the charge lies on the identification of the water value. The formulas for the equation for charging presented take into account the types and quantities of waste discharges into water bodies, whose charge represents the cost for the treatment of this contamination. The examples clearly show the absence of a variable that expresses the water value in relation to its availability, in other words, in relation to its available stock in the environment, particularly groundwater stock. This paper aims to value groundwater in Sinop/MT, considering the water availability in the aquifers Utiariti and Salto das Nuvens in the city. To achieve this goal, specific actions were: address the use of physical dimensions and the amount of water in the aquifers that supply the city of Sinop/MT; quantify and classify the users of the public water supply system; equate supply and demand of aquifers that supply the city, and evaluate the impact of these waters on the socioeconomics of the city.
