Resumo: |
Detrusor underactivity is a disease that has no effective treatment in traditional medicine and can cause kidney failure. The present research evaluated the effects of cell therapy, with mesenchymal stem cells from adipose tissue, in the treatment of detrusor underactivity in men. Nine patients diagnosed with detrusor underactivity were evaluated. Patients underwent two transplants, with 2x106 cells/transplant, by means of cystourethroscopy. Transplantation was performed by intravesical injection at five points in the supra trigonal portion of the bladder. The results demonstrate that cell therapy increased (p<0.05) the maximum flow, mean flow and urinated volume and reduced (p<0.05) the residual volume in the uroflowmetry exam. There was also an increase (p<0.05) in maximum flow, maximum detrusor pressure, urinary volume and bladder contractility index in the pressure flow study. The score of the International Consultation on Incontinence Questionare decreased from 11.44±1.43 to 3.78±0.78 after cell therapy, which indicates an improvement in quality of life and return to daily activities. Patients even after 6 months of cell therapy did not present complications. All patients performed about five clean intermittent catheterizations daily. After therapy, 77.78% no longer do the procedure and 22.28% reduced to two daily catheterizations. In view of the above, it is suggested that therapy with mesenchymal stem cells is a new and safe therapeutic option for the treatment of detrusor underactivity. |
