Resumo: This is qualitative research of exploratory nature that addresses the construction of the identity of the Physical Education teacher in Pre-school. The concepts of identity were based on Stuart Hall and Zygmunt Bauman, and had as objectives: General - to discuss the concept of identity and investigate the construction of the identity of Physical Education teachers working in Pre-school and, specific objectives - a) to outline the profile of the Physical Education teacher, regarding age group, academic background and time working in teaching, in kindergarten and nursery in the municipality of Corumbá; b) understand if the entrance of the teacher in Pre-school in Corumbá happened by "option" or "condition", i.e., if it was a conscious choice, planned and marked by pedagogical criteria or a mere necessity of insertion in the labor world; and c) interpret the meaning that each teacher gives to his/her profession and list the main difficulties of Physical Education teachers who work in Pre-school. To achieve these goals, interviews were conducted with 05 Physical Education teachers working in Early Childhood Education in the city of Corumbá, MS. The data obtained were analyzed based on Bardin's content analysis. From the results it was possible to infer that the identity of the Physical Education teacher who works in Pre-school in Corumbá was (re)constructed throughout his/her life, beginning in the first school experiences. The initial training course has a great influence in this process, but it is in the daily teaching, in the exchange with peers and school community that this identity is really forged.
