Resumo: The search for new energy sources has always been a constant need for the development of society. Currently, electricity generation continues to be increasingly necessary, due to the growth of cities and regions. The main objective of this scientific research is to analyze the feasibility of implementing an Energy Recovery Unit for Urban Solid Waste in Campo Grande/MS. This type of enterprise is characterized by use the energy from waste, using this material as fuel for the generation of electrical and / or thermal energy. Even if the location of this project is the municipality, this scientific research can contribute to the development of similar projects in other locations. Campo Grande/MS, capital of Mato Grosso do Sul has 895,982 habitants with production of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) per capita of 0.92 kg/hab/day, totaling 302,439 t/year of MSW (wet basis). Considering the MSW, on a dry basis and without ash, the availability of MSW for energy use is 173,393.61 t/year with a low calorific value of 19.33 MJ/t. The Energy Recovery Unit (ERU) of MSW evaluated showed electricity generation potential of 122,028.69 MWh/year from 405.83 t/day of processed MSW, Net Present Value (NPV) of R$ 170,866,529.88, Internal Rate of Return (IRR) of 20.11%, Simple Payback of 5.22 years and Discount of 7.18 years, thus indicating its technical and economic viability.
