The present study deals with the application of Mathematical Modeling in the calculation of the power factor, through activities developed with a group of students from the Electrotechnics course at the IFMS-Campus Campo Grande. The proposal to use mathematical modeling as a strategy teaching is due to the fact that many students have difficulty solving problem situations that involve concepts of electricity, which is a subject studied throughout the course. Of that Thus, associating the concepts studied in this discipline with everyday situations, it becomes more pleasant and easy to assimilate at the expense of studying countless formulas that often do not make sense to students at first. The research was qualitative and the data collection was carried out through questionnaires, records of responses to activities developed, observation and filling of an online form by the students. Concepts mathematics such as: Pythagorean theorem, trigonometric ratios, measure of angles in degrees and radians, vectors, rule of three were explored and worked with the students. The theme power factor was chosen to be applied and developed seeking contextualization and interdisciplinarity, with the aim of inserting mathematics in the daily lives of students. Being thus, the results of the data obtained came together with the research proposal, which allowed to articulate Mathematics with matters related to Electrotechnics.
