Resumo: This research aims to observe, identify and analyze, through the content analysis methodology, the characteristics that determine the construction of science dissemination in four news web portals in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul, being them from Campo Grande, Campo Grande News; of Dourados, Dourados Agora; of Três Lagoas, Hoje mais Três Lagoas; and from Corumbá, Diário Online. To guide the research, the following question was asked: How do news web portals in Mato Grosso do Sul disseminate science? 39 news items collected on the four portals in March 2021 were analyzed, a period that coincides with the new wave of growth in Covid-19 cases in Brazil, making science matters on the rise. The work aims to identify the characteristics adopted for the construction of news and to understand to what extent these cybermedia contribute to the dissemination of science in the state. The specific objectives are; analyze the subjects on scientific dissemination published in March 2021 in terms of message, source and location and describe, through qualitative research, details of the information obtained in local materials. Four categories of analysis were created: presence of illustrations/explanations, genre, location of scientific research and content of the message about science. It was found that the dissemination of scientific research by news web portals in Mato Grosso do Sul are minimal, pointing out how science has been neglected through its media.
