Resumo: ABSTRACT The study carried out in the Varandas do Campo and Vazão Samambaia communities, located in the south of Campo Grande - MS, aimed to analyze the socio-environmental problems arising from the irregular occupation of urban land in these areas. These communities are close to housing projects and apartments from social programs, such as Minha Casa Minha Vida. The research was conducted through field work, in which photographic records were made to identify the main infrastructure problems, questionnaires were applied and interviews were carried out. The results obtained revealed that both communities face similar socio-environmental problems. One of the main problems identified was the lack of maintenance of public roads. The streets had a lack of weeding, which contributed to the accumulation of vegetation and the proliferation of insects and rodents. In addition, holes were observed in the streets, which became true traps and accumulated water during the rainy season, increasing the risk of diseases transmitted by standing water. With regard to infrastructure, the data collected revealed a high accumulation of solid waste and open sewage. This demonstrates the lack of an adequate waste collection and treatment system, which poses a risk to the health of residents and the environment. These socio-environmental problems directly affect the quality of life of the population in these communities. The lack of basic infrastructure and the absence of adequate services compromise the well-being of residents and contribute to the devaluation of these areas. In view of these conclusions, the need for actions aimed at improving the quality of life of these communities and reducing the present environmental injustices is evident. This requires investments in infrastructure, such as improving public roads, implementing adequate waste collection and treatment systems, and offering basic services, such as treated water and sewage. Proper occupation of urban land and environmental preservation. Environmental education and community awareness actions can contribute to changing behavior and building a healthier and more sustainable environment for all residents of these communities. Keywords: Irregular occupations, socio-environmental problems, sacrifice zones.
