Resumo: | Interest in politics is an aspect that is present in important studies in the field of political behavior and public opinion, proving to be a relevant variable in the composition and explanation of desirable attitudes and behaviors for democratic citizenship. Without a minimum level of attention to political matters, citizens would not even be aware of the political process or opportunities to contribute to collective decisions. In this sense, the importance of political interest is one of the best established notions in public opinion studies, and the discussion should be about the degree of interest in democratic systems. However, there is still a long margin for investigation into this motivation. Considering such importance, in this work, we used the APC model (acronym in English for age-period-cohort), to investigate whether there is a cohort/generation effect on the political interest of Brazilians. For this, we used data from Latinobarômetro and Lapop (Latin American Public Opinion Project), between the years 1995 and 2018. From them, we created a category of political generation, based on events in recent national political history, based on the idea that these events would be able to form political generations through socialization. The results do not confirm generation effect, but only age and period. |
