Resumo: | This research aims to understand the role of collection management regarding knowledge organization and the relations within the processes of the preservation of documents produced in memory and cultural institutions. In this sense, the objective is to identify and analyze studies and procedures of institutional memory preservation and to present a flowchart for the creation of an institutional repository for the Iron Quadrangle Geopark (Geoparque Quadrilátero Ferrífero) in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The purpose of geoparks is the preservation of geological heritage through the promotion of geosciences, enabling both technical and scientific knowledge and the creation of mechanisms that make it possible to take knowledge to the local population who is interested in such theme. The hypothesis of this research is as follows: actions taken to create an institutional repository, from the onset of the establishment of public or private institutions, to safeguard organizational memories. In this sense, the analysis question concerns “What are the methods and procedures adopted in knowledge organization that aim at the preservation of the document production and the organizational memory of the Iron Quadrangle Geopark in order to subsidize the structure of a repository model?” Initially, secondary data were collected on institutional websites (UNESCO, CPRM, IPHAN). That was followed by mapping the academic production listed on the Capes Journal Library (Portal de Periódicos da Capes) using the keyword “geopark”, which was followed by searches using a combination of terms related to the discussion of the preservation of the cultural heritage of geoparks in Brazil, focusing on organizational memory in the Information Science & Technology Abstracts (ISTA) database and in the Library, Information Science & Technology Abstracts (LIST) with the purpose of carrying out a systematic review of the literature through the recovery and identification of works containing the term “organization memory”. Simultaneously, a semistructured interview took place with the purpose of extracting analytical categories. After the selection and the analysis of the collected data, the necessary subsidies were established for the approach to be developed, culminating in the development of an institutional repository flowchart. This research concluded, as a result, that the institutional repository is an effective means to preserve the institutional memory of the Iron Quadrangle Geopark such as to enable it being part of the Global Geopark Network. Projects that apply the concept of citizen science enable the involvement of the local population with studies and research in order to provide greater visibility to the Iron Quadrangle Geopark |
