Resumo: To increase the knowledge in the field of studies of information sources, the managers of startups in Minas Gerais and the sources of information that they used most in the organizational environments were investigated. The research featured the relevance of the external environment sectors for business; the factors that motivate the manager to seek information; the degree of relevance and reliability of information sources; and the sharing of information within the organization. Startups managers were chosen as users of information and objects of this project because they represent a segment of entrepreneurs with a high impact on world economic development. Minas Gerais was the chosen state for gathering the second largest community of startup entrepreneurs in Brazil. The studies related to the use of information sources in the organizational context usually privilege large or medium corporations; small companies, and especially startups, are little explored in the academic literature; the studies focus on the field of Business Administration, with little emphasis on Information Science. This project intends to fill some of these gaps, giving light to the reality of these small and notable entrepreneurs. The research methodology was based on the combination of quantitative and qualitative methods. For the collection of quantitative data, the survey model was used. We obtained 60 responses from entrepreneurs in a universe of about 400 startups in the state. After the analysis of results, as a qualitative research method, interviews were conducted with three managers involved in incubation, acceleration and startup investment programs, in order to discuss the data. Research has shown that entrepreneurs recognize customers and technology as key external environment sectors that affect business; the concern to seek information in order to generate innovation and support decisions; the relevance and reliability attributed to internal information sources, such as partners/employees and their own databases; the relevance of new digital information sources over traditional sources; and the sharing of information through informal contacts
