This paper presents the evolution of the labor market in the financial sector in Brazil between 1990 and 2015. Through a microeconometric study, with breakdowns by gender, education, age, and region, the paper presents the evolution of the financial sector vis-à-vis other sectors of the economy. Quantile regressions are estimated to investigate the financial sector premium along the income distribution of labor. A partial equilibrium exercise is performed to assess the impact and evolution of income inequality in the financial sector. The theoretical approach used characterizes the process of financialization as a phenomenon in the capitalist economy that leads to a pattern of accumulation in which profit is increasingly obtained through financial channels rather than through trade and the production of goods and services. This process is related to the deep deregulation of the financial sector in central economies since the 1980s.
