Resumo: This work consists in the experimental investigation of the performance and the structural behavior of Enveloped Laminar Concrete panels (CLE), under compression. These panels are characterized by using steel U channels involving a concrete wall with reinforcement composed by square welded steel meshes welded to the channels. In the experimental program, seventeen CLE and nine normal strength reinforced concrete panels were testet under concentric loads, varying their slenderness ratios. The test rig setup allowed the execution of clamped supports and the uniform distribution of the load throughout the width of the panels. It were measured: strains in the materials of CLE panels by electrical strain gauges, axial displacements and horizontal displacements, at the middle height of the panels, using linear displacement transducers. The results of the ultimate axial loads were analyzed and compared with equations developed by researchers and other specified in national and international technical standards. The results analysis indicated that the steel U channels influence the ultimate strength of the CLE panels, offering gains of 30% in strength. Also the welded connection reinforcement-channels showed satisfactory performance, because theultimate tensile strength of the welded connection was next to the reinforcement yield strength. Finally, the comparison of experimental results with the obtained from the research equations and technical standards showed that the CLE panels resistance were underestimated in all cases.
