Resumo: The definition of the processing route of the Fabrica mine ore, located at the ferrous district of Minas Gerais, was based at the diagnostic of the process through the sampling of the existing circuit, mass and metallurgical balances using software and at the technological characterization of the run of mine. The work had as main objective to evaluate the current circuit of ore treatment with the new run of mine and/or to look for a new route to improve Pellet Feed quality. The beginning of the work included the planning and formation of a pile, containing approximated 85.000t, that represented the physical and chemical characteristics of the new run of mine of the plant, with enough mass to guarantee the feed of the plant for 3 days of continuous operation, witch is the minimum amount necessary for the samplingand data collection for the new mass and metallurgical balances.During the processing of the pile and with the plant at steady state, samples were taken at several flows during four hours, every 15 minutes. These samples were composed, completing 20 to 40kg, and then sent to chemical and size distribution analyses. The sampling points were previously defined evaluating the quality of the samples taken tothe definition of the accuracy and properly mass balance of the data. For the classification unit operations, it was used the size distribution for the definition of the partition. This was fixed for the calculation of the metallurgical balance. For the concentration unit operations, it was used the grades for the definition of the mass recoveries. This was fixed to obtaining the size distribution. This procedure was used to increase the sensibility of the mass balance. For the calculations of the mass andmetallurgical balances, it were used the Usimpac package. The mineralogical characterization allowed the selection and definition of the process routes to be evaluated. The bench tests defined the parameters and variables of the process to be studied at pilot scale.
