Resumo: The work of the writer Joao Gilberto Noll has gained notable attention in the contemporary Brazilian literature for its particular language and its approach to important issues to the literary and cultural studies in our time, such as wandering through urban space; the body and sex as space of degradation and resistance; the role or space of the intellectual in contemporary; subversion or overcoming of old values of society, among others. This emphasis has been reflected in several academic papers (theses and dissertations) and literary criticism. This work takes as a central focus the analysis of the novel O quieto animal da esquina, of Noll, from a transdisciplinary theoretical support, especially the work A era do vazio: ensaio sobre o individualismo contemporâneo of Gilles Lipovetsky, to draw a profile of the protagonist of the novel based on the concept of individualism outlined by the contemporary french philosopher. Thus, it is expected to understand how the nolliana aesthetic incorporates individualistic practices in vogue in the composition of his character and, consequently, the formation of a plot, which unfolds entirely tied to him, considering he is the protagonist and also the narrator of the novel. Moreover, it is expected that the perception of ways in which literature reads society, which is contemporary, also raises a reflection on our practices, customs and values today
