Resumo: | SANTOS, E. S. Management of Materials and Medicines without previous use Discarded in a University Hospital in the period from 2015 to 2019. 2021. Dissertation (Professional Master in Health Services Management) – School of Nursing, Federal University of Minas Gerais, Belo Horizonte, 2021. This study aims to evaluate the management of materials and medicines that were discarded as waste and rejects without having been used, and to propose improvements in their management, in order to avoid waste. This is a cross-sectional, descriptive study with a quantitative approach. Data collection was carried out by consulting the database, restricted to the health institution in which the study took place, considering the records of the last five years (2015-2019). The investigated variables were: the number of disposal records; type of health services waste (material or medication); categorization of health services waste based on classification as to the indication of use, year of disposal, quantity discarded (in kilograms), reason for disposal (inability to use or expiration date), and the cost of acquisition and final destination per year. The descriptive analysis of the data was performed using the Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software, version 19.0, with calculation of absolute and relative frequencies, measures of central tendency and variability and construction of graphs. The results of the study showed that the total cost of items discarded over the five years was R $ 550,853.00, with a higher value in 2016 (R $ 241,609.50) and lower in 2017 (R $ 5,210.50). In the characterization of the type of health services waste discarded over the years, there was an increase in the percentage of discharges of materials and a tendency to decrease in the discard of medicines. There was also an upward trend in discards due to the impossibility of using materials and medicines and a reduction in discards due to expiration date. The findings allow us to conclude that there is a need to improve information systems and strengthen educational practices in the health institution, aiming at making the work and organizational management process more robust. The technical products of this research were the preparation of the Flowchart for Guidance and Instructional Guide for monitoring the validity of materials and medicines in the entire health services value chain. This research was conducted according to the requirements of Resolution No. 466/2012, it was approved by the Research Ethics Committee under CAAE number 27528919.1.0000.5149 and authorization from the Hospital Institution to use the data through the signing of the Data Usage Agreement. |
