The new product development (NPD) process has a great importance for enterprises economic survival. However, in despite of NPD to have a lot of literature support, only a few studies gives approaches about it at the small to medium-sized enterprises SMEs. This work explores the NPD at one small manufacturing company, aiming the understanding improvement about the studied company context, contributing to increase its product development potential. To obtain that, a literature revision wasdone, associating with enterprise case study. The main results obtained were the actual development process characterization and the found NPD constrains, moreover the make-up and implementation of improvement suggestions to the method actually used, always fitting the concepts of bibliography with SMEs reality. Several aspects observed during this work are showed, contributing to a wider understanding and discussion about found project reality.
