Resumo: The theme of this research addresses the field of Art in Early Childhood Education. The general objective was to investigate the proposal around Art in the Municipal Centers for Early Childhood Education (CEMEIS) in the city of Montes Claros, considering the option of the Municipal Education Secretariat for the role of the specialist teacher in this field, first the specialist in Music, and, later, the specialist in Art. Inserted in a qualitative methodological approach, the investigation sought to identify, according to its specific objectives, the characteristics and trajectory of Early Childhood Education in the context of Brazilian education and the municipality of Montes Claros; to raise information on public policies around the teaching of Music in Brazil, especially its proposals for Early Childhood Education; to know the reality surrounding the insertion of the specialist teacher of Art in Early Childhood Education in Montes Claros, regarding the implantation processes, training and pedagogical practices. To this end, the research used the following methodological path: bibliographic research, document analysis and semi-structured interviews with representatives of the Secretariat and CEMEIS teachers. Based on the confrontation between the data produced through the interviews and the theoretical scope of the investigation, categories were elaborated that made it possible to build aspects for the understanding of the issues raised by the research, namely: the motivations of the Municipal Education Department of Montes Claros regarding the insertion of the specialist in Art in Early Childhood Education; the problem of teacher training in different artistic languages compared to current legislation; and the aspects of daily work in CEMEIS, highlighting how Music is integrated in this context.
