Resumo: A classification process of innovation projects aims to group those with similar characteristics into predefined categories, with the aim of directing contingency management efforts. As examples of the intended results, we mention the operational improvements in the development of the projects and the increase of the chances of success. This process requires the selection of criteria for the elaboration of a classification scheme that must be related to the characteristics of innovation projects and to the role played by the organization in its management. This work investigates the dynamics of innovation project management in a support center for the technology and innovation industry, in order to identify criteria that allow the elaboration of a scheme for the classification of projects associated to potential benefits derived from this classification. Among the results of this work, we highlight the characterization of the organization in relation to the role played in the management of innovation portfolio projects. From the identification of the organization's role, the characteristics of the projects that compose the portfolio and the respective criteria to compose the classification proposal were identified. These criteria were related to the problems encountered in project management, in order to highlight the potential benefits that a classification scheme could generate for the organization studied. This result allows other organizations of the innovation ecosystem to elaborate their proposal of classification from the accomplishment of the steps described above, also aiming to increase the chances of success of their projects even though they act in a different way in project management.
