Definição e validação dos termos atribuídos aos fenômenos de enfermagem em terapia intensiva

Due to the new scenery resulting from the globalization and technological advances, there is a necessity to build a new corpus that define and describe the practice of nursing. Therefore, it is necessary to reorganize the nursing assistance and to construct a proper vocabulary of the profession. One of the essential instruments to this restructuring is the definition of specific nursing terms. To do this, nursing classification systems have been being developed, such as the International Classification to the Nursing Practice - ICNP. This study is a part of a bigger project that aims to build software that helps the Systematization of the Nursing Assistance in Intensive Care Units. These terms were classified in the axis focus and judgment of the classification. This is a descriptive-exploratory study, whose objective was to validate the definitions created for the terms, used by nurses, that are not in the ICNP Version 1.0 and are identified in the charts of patients in a Intensive Care Unit in the city of Belo Horizonte, Brazil. The Delphi technique was used to validate the definitions elaborated to the terms in a Likert type scale, in which the participant sings the pertinence degree of the definition. 47 definitions of terms classified in the axis focus and 19 definitions of terms classified in the axis judgment of the ICNP Version 1.0 were validated. Data was collected using a questionnaire sent via web to 175 nurses that filled the established inclusion criteria. It was considered valid the definition that reached a Concordance Degree (CD) higher or equal to 0.8. In the first validation stage, 44 terms classified in the axis focus and all terms classified in the axis judgment reached the desired CD. In the second stage, after re-elaboration of the definitions of the terms with a CD lower than 0.8, the expected CD was reached to all definitions. Studies to validation of term definitions are essential to do research, teaching and professional practice, for they contribute to the constructing of a specific nursing language, the ICNP. It is believed that the use of this practice easies the communication among nurses and among other health professionals. These professionals must be encouraged to register the care given to the patients using a language that is proper to the profession, what possibilities a greater visibility of the profession.
