Based on the internal rules and institutional academic practices, this thesis aims to analyze how black, indigenous, and quota students are denied recognition as subjects and knowledge producers based on a very specific interpretation of their actions and behaviors within the institutional structure of the Federal University of Minas Gerais, and more specifically, within the PPGAN-UFMG academic community under study. This thesis seeks to demonstrate how their actions and behaviors are not interpreted by the academic institution, its community members, and the faculty as legitimate or appropriate, as the meanings previously established by the institution are based on notions and practices of whiteness.
