Resumo: | The cardboard box has the function of protecting and storing the goods, providing they reach their final destination in satisfactory condition. The packaging market is growing rapidly and constantly evolving technologies and features designed to not harm the environment. To meet its various uses, companies apply different cardboard materials, in order to give the final product better finishing and sealing characteristics, as well as higher scores on tests of stacking. To meet its various uses, companies apply different cardboard materials, in order to give the final product better finishing and sealing characteristics, as well as higher scores on tests of stacking. Among these materials can be mentioned paints, varnishes and synthetic polymers that are used to create an impermeable film, has in its composition agents that hinder the recycling process and generate waste difficult to biodegrade. The aim of this study is to evaluate these films synthetic replacement for one that is naturally occurring, biodegradable characteristics. Accordingly, the chitosan has emerged due rather to their ability to form films resistant and waterproofing characteristics give the final product, without however compromising the recycling. In this work chitosan solutions were applied in samples of cardboard and in them were performed to test weight, permeability, contact angle, adhesion. The microstructural characterization was performed by the SEM images and spectra of FTI. Based on the tests, the chitosan film performance was efficient in its use as a coating, creating a barrier against moisture |
