Resumo: The canine demodecic mange (SDC) is a cutaneos inflammatory disease widespread throughout the world. Its related to the proliferation of Demodex mites acquired during first week of life by directcontact with the bitch. The diagnosis is made by deep skin scrapings that, while presenting high sensitivity, is a techinique that causes injury, causing pain and stress in dogs, which may be uncomfortable to owners. Were compared the avulsion hair test and the adherence tape test, that showed same sensitivity to each other and less than the deep skin scraping. The amitraz is the choice acaricide for SDC treatment because of safety and eficacy. However, evaluations of its haematological andbiochemical effects were only performed at the end of treatment or from toxicity tests for enteral or parenteral administration. Longitudinal study was performed in dogs treated with amitraz topically but without the occurrence of side effects. Prognosis of localizated SCD is good but generalized cases, despite all the research seeking more effective treatments, the prognosis is still reserved and depends onthe predisposing factors involved in each case.
