Resumo: This paper proposes an analysis of morphology of the Greenspaces which are present within the urban conurbation area of Belo Horizonte (MG) and its adjoining municipalities, in order to discuss the roles played by those fragments. It is, therefore, a methodological proposal for diagnosis and planning of Greenspaces embedded in the urban landscape, in light of the benefits that they can bring to heavily built areas. This methodology is based on Landscape Ecology principles in the sense of attempting to draw relationships between shape, function and spacetime transformations among the structural elements of the landscape analyzed which are, in this case, the intra-urban vegetation fragments. It is thus an adaptation, specifically for urban studies, of a methodology already used for identifying priority areas for conservation and potential areas for creation of ecological corridors. This work seeks to disseminate tools for urban Greenspaces planning and, therewith, tocontribute to identifying, characterizing and recognizing the importance of these areas for improving the quality of urban life. The Greenspaces, as well as the urban conurbation area, were mapped from an interpretation and supervised classification of RapidEye satellite images of 2010, using the software Spring 5.2.1. These images enable a high detailing of land use and cover, especially of identifying the vegetative covering, in function of spatial, spectral and radiometric characteristics of the sensors bands. The analysis on the vegetative fragments morphology was performed by calculating the Landscape Metrics available in the software Fragstats 3.3. The result obtained from the application of the Landscape Metrics is a diagnostic of morphology and dispersion of the Greenspaces, which gives support for the analysis of the use and functions that are or may be linked thereto. From this knowledge it is possible to devise a system of urban Greenspaces consistent with the existing potential and the potential already used.
