Resumo: The exergy or energy availability of a thermodynamic system, in a given state, is defined as the maximum work that one can obtain by taken the system to its equilibrium state with the environment, in a reversible process. In a real process (irreversible), there is a loss of capability of the realization of work, which gives a measure of the irreversibility of theprocess. The concept of exergy, originated from the First and Second Laws of the Thermodynamic, was first introduced by G. J. Gouy and A. Z. Stodola which have quantified the useful work lost in a thermodynamic process. Z. Rant published a paper using the word exergy for the first time. In the 70s and 80s, J. Szargut, T. A. Brzustowski and P. J. Golem adopted the term exergy and applied exergetic analysis in several works. The exergetic analysis of a thermodynamic system consists, fundamentally, in the identification and quantification of the irreversibilities of the system, through the application of the input exergies and of the exit exergies (products and wastes) in the system and in the calculation of the system exergetic efficiency. The exergetic analysis of a system allows to express the energetic limitations of different processes, such as technological, economical, environmental and social. R. U. Ayres, H. T.Odum, R. Georgescu, G. Wall and others extended the application of the exergetic analysis to such areas respectively.
