Resumo: This thesis is an exploratory study on the overall operation of virtual offices business centers located in different capitals of the Brazil seeking to identify how the process of flexible work adapts to this new, and yet not fully studied, area of social interaction. A field research of major business centers and existing services offered by them wasconducted during the past months. The behavior of their users was also analyzed, by observing the degree of their integration in the context of flexible specialization of work and the impact these environments have on the exercise of their professional activities. From the theoretical point of view, it was considered the work and its development, focusing on the restructuring process started in the 1990s. Important concepts of thesociology of organizations and the sociology of professions, such as bureaucracy, professional autonomy, control over work processes, and organizational flexibility, among others, are discussed in this study. This theme is related to the new work processes, a discussion that encompasses the organization and identity at work, a very current topic.
