Resumo: | The present work has as its object the set of manifestations composed of pixações, graffiti and large-scale mural paintings (and their surroundings) – which has been popularly called “urban art”. The main objectives are: to map and conceptually systematize these practices and investigate them from the subjectivities of their practitioners and their relationships with the spaces of the city, reflect on urban art in the face of some of the main socio-spatial issues of today, express academically about the theme from conceptual markers used by urban artists. The methodology is based mainly on empirical research, having as theoretical reference the constellation method by Walter Benjamin – from which a mosaic of diversified strategies was built to inform the research. The results point to a close relationship between the high volume of Brazilian urban artists and aspects such as: high levels of social inequality, lack of access to traditional art circuits for a large portion of the population (and consequent low representation of popular diversity in these environments), lack of public and democratic access to the mass media, generalized distrust of public and private institutions, collective demand for historical review, development of awareness of peripheral populations as political subjects and construction of their own languages and productive modes. |
