Resumo: | The lack of consensus on the amount of sulfur compounds on reinforced concrete structures has resulted into a large number of investigations worldwide. In this scenario, the goal of this investigation is to evaluate the performance of concrete and mortar produced with aggregates containing sulfides. Aggregates from the surroundings ofIrapwater power plant as well as gneiss (reference) were used in the study. Mortar and concrete bar specimens were exposed to a calcium hydroxide solution dissolved in water kept at room temperature and 40°C as prescribed by LNEC E-251 specification (1985). Measurements of each bar length were taken from 7 to 365 days after exposition. Concrete and mortar compressive and splitting tensile strength were alsoevaluated. The microstructure analysis included scanning electron microscopy and chemical determination of the sulfur content. The test results indicate that the aggregate size and the environmental temperature have significant influence in the behavior. |
