Resumo: This thesis investigates the production of the public school buildings in the state of Minas Gerais. In contrast to the importance given by historiography to large public works, singular elements in the landscape of cities, the aim of the present study is to give attention standard school buildings, in which we could define as ordinary architecture, it remains a matter understudied nowadays. Analysing the experience of the public institutions - Campanha de Reparo e Restauração dos Prédios Escolares do Estado (CARRPE) and Comissão de Construção, Ampliação e Reconstrução dos Prédios Escolares do Estado (CARPE) - discussing their relevance to the architectural culture in Minas Gerais, Brazil. This analysis is based on a critical reading of documents, drawings, reports and projects, with emphasis on its production process. The intention is to expand the understanding of this production system and contribute to the reconstruction of its history. Together, CARRPE and CARPE were the public institutions who designed and built most of the school buildings in Minas Gerais (1958-1987). Among other things, it ismalos noteworthy mention in this scenario the peculiarity of the way of public performance of CARPE in relation to other Brazilian experiences with rationalization and standardization constructive. The objective of this study is to analyze projects for school buildings in the State of Minas Gerais through these experiences.
