Resumo: In the recent development stage of wireless devices, infra-structure and related technologies, demand for availability of useful services and applications is growing quickly. The cellular communication network, one of the most propelling impulses of the market, is already enabling the development of data access technologies. However, either with facilities oered by these technologies, the wireless communication environment has serious restrictions in services oer to mobile users. Specific applications for mobile wireless devices can be made available only if developers consider restrictions imposed by mobile communication environment through a new approach in applications design. Considering the relevant aspects mentioned above, the main proposal of this dissertation is to develop an architecture that implements adaptation techniques as a solution for mobile applications. An application for nding nearest address related to a mobile uer was developed as an example of service for the architecture and adaptation techniques validation. This application is included in one of the most atracting mobile applications category, the LBS (Location Based Services) services. These applications can oer facilities related with own phisical location of mobile users through use of specific infra-strucutre technologies. For example, applications like 'Mobile Yellow Pages' provide a rich variety of information that mobile users can use to locate addresses and another geographical ocurrencies in a city. In the remainder of this text there is a description of the specification and implementation solutions used in the architecture and application deployment, as well as the validation process accomplished with one simulator.
