Resumo: The consumables welding industry manufactures a large quantity of products that are utilized as welding or coating material on metallic materials, generating big quantities of waste rich in toxic metals that causes negative environmental impacts when disposed incorrectly. At present, these wastes are disposed in industrial landfills or they are co-processed in cement ovens. In this thesis was done a laboratory scale study, in order to planning the utilization of this waste as raw material to make red ceramic bricks. The waste utilized is resultant of themanufacturing process of electrodes, flux cored wires, fluxes and wear plates. To attend this objective, the waste was characterized according to the ABNT NBR 10004:2004 standard, and subsequently were performed laboratory tests such as water absorption, compression resistance, leaching and solubility to verify its utilization as raw material to manufacture bricks without affected its functional characteristics and wouldnt not permit that the final product generated have some characteristic that became impracticable the utilization of the waste for this finality. The experimental results showed that additions up to 10% in weight of the waste in the clay do not show technical or environmental restrictions. They can be utilized as raw material to manufacture ceramic bricks.
